In
Seacliff, some of the most beautiful homes in San Francisco
cling to the steep hillsides shrouded in briny mist from
the Pacific. Lawns and shrubs must be chosen to withstand
the salt intrusion. This brick Colonial was sharply landscaped
with a new lawn, a new entry gate in the traditional white
fence and a new privet hedge flanking the front gate.
San Francisco landscape architect
Jay Thayer called for gently sloping brick walkways
for easy wheelchair access. Dan Fix Landscape Construction
installed large specimen arborvitae shrubs to punctuate
the entrance.
A photinia side-hedge provides a backdrop to the wooden
bench overlooking the lawn.
The slide-show below shows some additional
views.
