Spanish-Style Orinda Renovation
This design by Bay Area architect Ron Lutsko won a California State award for the hilly Orinda renovation. It features a cantilevered pool surrounded by flagstone coping and an arbor supported by stone columns and draped with wisteria. Large Arizona flagstone chunks were were fashioned by hand to make stair treads and the stones for paths leading to several patios at different locations on the hillside.
The tile-roofed Spanish-style house with white stucco arches is surrounded by curving stone stairways flowing between low white walls, square white pillars and hand-made stone walls. The built-in barbeque is nestled at the base of a double-trunked tree and held in place with stone walls. Just steps from the pool, the outdoor spa is a pie-shaped wedge in the stone walls that flank the stairs. These stone walls hold the terraced plantings of California natives that look just right with the heritage Spanish hacienda. The slide-show below shows the details.
